Celebrate Creativity and Culture at MCC’s T-Shirt Workshop
This spring, Medway Culture Club invites children aged 5–16 to take part in a fun, immersive creative session. Taking place on Saturday, 16th May at MidKent College, between 10:30-13:30, this hands-on workshop will give young participants the chance to explore the rich cultural diversity of the Commonwealth while producing their very own bespoke t-shirt.

In this interactive session, children will learn to use different print techniques to design bright, colourful t-shirts inspired by the countries of the Commonwealth. From flags to greetings in different languages, every participant will leave with a unique piece of wearable art, created with professional tools and materials. Beyond the artistic skills, the session offers children a chance to learn about cultures from across the Commonwealth, sparking curiosity and a deeper understanding of the global community.
The workshop carries special significance this year, as the Commonwealth Games come to British soil for the first time in over a decade. Hosting the Games is a moment to celebrate athletic achievement, international friendship, and cultural exchange. MCC’s workshop gives young participants a playful and educational way to engage with this global event, encouraging them to appreciate the diversity and shared values of the Commonwealth.
Adding to the excitement, the t-shirts created at the workshop will not just be keepsakes; they will play a part in MCC’s 6th annual Carnival on 8th August at the Royal Engineers Museum. Participants will have the opportunity to wear their Commonwealth-inspired designs in a vibrant parade, showcasing their creativity and celebrating community, culture, and togetherness. This adds an extra layer of purpose and pride to their creations, transforming a fun craft session into a real contribution to a major local cultural event.
The workshop is designed to be inclusive and engaging. With a focus on creativity, cultural learning, and hands-on activity, children will gain confidence in artistic techniques while connecting with a wider global story.
The MCC T-Shirt Factory is more than just a craft workshop; it’s a celebration of culture, creativity, and the shared spirit of the Commonwealth. By taking part, children will not only learn practical skills in designing and printing t-shirts but also participate in a meaningful cultural experience that links local creativity with global awareness. And when they parade in our Carnival on 8th August, their t-shirts will become symbols of pride, diversity, and the joy of artistic expression.
